How to Sideflip on ground

*do a side flip* How cool was that! Have you ever seen those acrobats at circus o lay doing crazy twists and turns on bars, doing insanely high front flips or perfectly executing a double backflip? Well, today I’m not going to show you all those tricks but I am going to teach you how to perform a side-flip on the ground. With these steps, you will be able to perfectly execute a side-flip anywhere anytime. You’re probably then asking how can we trust him and his methods, well I have done a lot of side-flips so much so that I did a side-flip every day for 100 days last year. So my technique has been dialed to make sure I land a side flip every time.

Before I talk about any technique or steps the first thing everyone should understand is commitment. You should never do a flip on the ground unless you’re going to put full commitment into the flip, otherwise, you may injure yourself or someone else.

So before the flip, I would suggest doing a little warm-up just to make sure you don’t pull anything or hurt yourself, this can be a light jog or some stretches of the arms and legs.

Now The first step to performing a side-flip. The run-up, it is important you have a good run up because you need to transfer that forward energy into height. The perfect speed for the run-up is 30% to 40% speed, so like a jog. you don’t want to be at a full sprint or a walk because that makes it more difficult to plant your feet and spring off. Once you have good speed, the next step is to jump. When you jump from the run-up land with your feet parallel around 30cm apart and facing sideways either to the left or the right depending on what feels more comfortable. Practice doing that for a bit, running, jumping, and landing.

The second step is throwing you arms, when I do a side-flip I prefer to flip on my right side so I’ll talk about the technique for your arms as if I was flipping on my right side if you feel more comfortable flipping on the other side just do the opposite to what I do, with your arms. So once you have the run-up and jump the way to achieve height is to punch off the ground this means to jump off the ground again so you would run, jump, and jump again but this time throw your arms The technique is with your leading arm you shoot it up at a 45° degree angle like your grabbing for something in the distance. And with your other arm bent at a 45° degree angle imagine your elbowing the sky. This technique here allows you to achieve the height you need and the higher you throw you leading arm the more height you get in your flip.

Once you have left the ground you should turn your head the opposite way you’re leading arm is facing remember that for when landing.

Once you have left the ground you should turn your head the opposite way you’re leading arm is facing remember that for when landing.

Anyhow the third step is the tuck. The tuck is much simpler than the other techniques but is the most crucial, without the tuck you might, as they say in flipping terms… neck yourself, otherwise known as hurting yourself badly or landing on your neck. Anyway, the tuck is what helps you increase speed in the rotation the closer the tuck, the faster you spin. Now once you have thrown your arms and you’re in the air you should start bringing your legs in like your tucking into a ball. Now there are two types of tucks the first is under the legs tuck where you put your hands under your hamstrings, or the overhand tuck, where you put your hands around your shins. I personally prefer overhand tuck but it’s up to you too. try each one and see what feels better.

The final step to the side-flip is the landing. Remember when I talked before about Turning your head, probably not but basically when you are in the air you should turn your head the opposite way your leading arm is facing. This is because when it comes to landing your eyes will see the ground first this means that once you see the ground you will know to untuck, to untuck means basically let your hands go from tuck.

If you follow my steps on how to side-flip from the beginning run up and jump, the punch and shooting your arms into the air, and finally tucking. You will be able to perfectly execute a side-flip on the ground anywhere, anytime. Thank you for listening and ill see you flipping around. *walk away side-flip*
